Titanic from one of the lifeboats.

Instructions:

Vocabulary: Define the listed terms and describe how or why they are significant to the film. You may have to use outside sources.

Discussion: Write a paragraph or a short paper to explain the requested information. Why is this important to the history involved?

Vocabulary

1. bulk-head 4. quartermaster 7. crow's nest
2. steerage 5. The Californian 8. ship’s list
3. morse-code 6. The Carpathia 9. gunwale

Discussion

1. The tragedy of the Titanic is a compelling story. It's natural to hope against hope that the ship really will not sink. What are the 'if only' factors that would have avoided this?

2. Discuss the reasons for which so many people died an unnecessary death on the Titanic. What was the most significant contributing factor?

3. Discuss the attitudes that the crew and the passengers exhibit toward class divisions. How does each ‘class’ feel about themselves compared to the others?
