PLATOON

· Chris has just arrived in Vietnam

· Others are coming back from the war including some in body bags

The 25^th Infantry Division

· A platoon of the 25^th Infantry Division is moving through the hot, sweltering jungle

· Chris starts to get exhausted, sits down, and finds that he has red ants all over his neck

· While Sgt. Barnes says for Chris to get going and yells at him, Sgt. Elias offers to carry some of Chris’s equipment.

· Supply helicopter lands and supplies are brought off

· Life at the base is portrayed

· Chris writes a letter to his grandmother describing his hardships and telling how he thinks that he made a mistake

· The sergeants talk about a platoon that got ambushed and also about whom would stay in and go out on an ambush.

· At first, it is decided that Elias was going to ambush , then it was changed to O’Neill since he had the veterans

· The soldiers go out to ambush

· Chris tells more about his life, how he wants to do his share for the country

· Chris gets night watch turned over to him

· Chris is still telling his letter to his grandmother in his mind

· He tells Junior that it is his shift on watch, but after Junior take the gun, he falls asleep

· Chris awakes abruptly after he feels ants on his neck

· He sees the Vietnamese coming , but doesn’t want to make a lot of noise getting his gun from Junior who is still asleep

· The Vietnamese set off some mines, and then the battle starts. Chris gets hit, thinks that it is serious, but it isn’t

· Junior blames Chris for the whole event, and Barnes believes him

· Gardner dies

· Chris gets three days light duty

· He and King have to take out the sewage and talk about how they got into the war

· Lieutenant Wolf walks in to see all of the sergeants gambling and after he leaves, everyone talks trash about him

· Everyone is listening to some Motown and dancing around either drunk or stoned

· The Infantry finds a Vietnamese Bunker Complex

· Barnes checks out the underground part of the fort

· Some men set off a mine

· The infantry has to move on to a nearby village where enemy soldiers are supposed to be

· Manny is missing

· Manny is found dead on the way to the village

· Barnes is very mad about this- he shoots a Vietnamese who is fleeing from the village

· Some of the soldiers are very mean to the village people and trash the place

· The village people are very scared; some hide and are found. Some are killed

· Chris finds a couple hiding and goes off on them, especially the male

· Some of the soldiers find hidden weapons

· Chris is still going off on the male Vietnamese man

· Francis says to leave, but Bunny crushes the Vietnamese man’s head

· Chris can’t believe it

· Barnes gets the guy in charge of the village and talks to him through Lerner

· Barnes shoots this man’s wife right through the head

· Barnes takes his daughter and holds a gun up to her head to get him to talk

· Elias interrupts this and boxes Barnes

· Chris intervenes in some soldiers trying to rape a girl

· The Infantry burns the city

· Harold tells everyone that he is hurting real bad inside

· Bunny and some other guys are taking up on Barnes’s side

· Chris and Elias talk

· Elias thinks that they were going to loose the war

· Chris talks in a letter to his grandmother about how he thinks that there is a civil war going on within the Infantry

· Some Vietnamese shoot; a battle breaks out- ambush

· Elias proposes a battle plan, but Barnes turns it down

· Chris does his first killing and gets excited

· Crawford gets hit

· Barnes tells the Chris and some other men to pull back, that he would get Elias

· Barnes shoots Elias

· A helicopter comes to pick up the wounded which among them was Harold

· The Infantry heads back to the base camp in the helicopters

· Chris sees Elias down on the ground running from many Vietnamese; he gets shot down after a struggle.

· Chris thinks that Barnes killed Elias

· Chris and Rimouchi get into it and then Barnes walks in and says, "I am reality" and "Elias is a Crusader"

· Barnes tells them to kill him and Chris starts to fight him. Barnes gets him down and cuts him

· Chris tells the others that the other battalions have been hit hard and they were probably going to be also

· Rimouchi talks to Wolf

· Chris and king talk

· Chris complains about Barnes

· King is done with his term- the two say goodbye

· Junior has feet problems and is told to put on his boots; can’t take it any more

· O’Neill wants to leave for R and R, he has a bad feeling- Barnes tells him no

· King leaves, the platoon hears enemy fire

· The platoon gets ready in their holes

· Wolf loses contact with the other platoon that is under heavy attack

· The Vietnamese are coming towards the platoon and in the process trip a flare

· Tex comes to tell of all of the Vietnamese that are coming

· Heavy fighting, Chris is very heroic and kills a lot of people

· O’Neill covers himself with a dead body in order to escape death from the oncoming Vietnamese

· The place gets overrun with Vietnamese and many of the American soldiers die

· Barnes almost kills Chris, but bombs get dropped in the perimeter and explode close by

· Chris finally comes to. He is alive!

· There are dead people everywher

· Chris finds Barns who says, "Get me a medic." He gives him a few bullets in the chest instead.

· Francis stabs himself in the leg so that he won’t have to serve anymore

· The wounded, including Chris are loaded on to helicopters

· Chris is going home "The war will always be there the rest of his days"
