PLATOON is a 'grunts' movie. Seen through the eyes of young Chris Taylor (Charlie Sheen), this Oscar-winning film (Best Picture, 1986) captures all of the uncertainty, blood, sweat, fear, and horror of the war in Vietnam.

The platoon not only fight the searing heat, the jungle and the Viet Cong but also each other. Gung-ho fanatic Sergeant Barnes and the more forgiving, but still every inch the combat soldier, Sergeant Elias build a second war between themselves, leading to tragic consequences.

PLATOON is one of three films on this site that cover the Vietnam War. The others are Full Metal Jacket and Hamburger Hill. They are part of the larger History in Film web site that supports teaching history using popular films. It includes films from Rome up to the war in Vietnam.
